You probably have an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you think He’s a great teacher or a prophet. Maybe you think He didn’t exist at all. Whatever you believe, we can probably agree that Jesus changed things.
We believe He wants to change you, too, and that he’s paved the way back to God for you.
Jesus himself said: I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. (John 14:6)
Trusting Jesus as the way to God is not an exclusive path to God, it’s completely inclusive. No matter who you are, what you’ve done, no matter where you were born, or the color of your skin, Jesus is the way for you to have a relationship with God. Everybody’s invited. Everybody’s included. Everybody’s important.
If you think you’re an exception to the rule, you’re wrong. Jesus loves you. Yes, you.
To follow Jesus is to belong to God's family.
Believing in Jesus is the starting point. Your choice to believe that Jesus is God's son grants you a place in the family of God.
Look at what the scriptures say: If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,‘ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
That’s it. Confess with your mouth. Believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord...that God raised Him from the dead, and your sins are forgiven, and your relationship with God has begun. Do that, and you’re a Christian. You belong to God's family!
You’re probably thinking, “Don’t I have to be a better person first?”
No, you don’t. You don’t change in order to gain God’s love, you change because you’ve experienced His love.
When you trust Jesus as your Saviour, you walk into the fullness of God’s love. Gradually, over time, God’s love changes you as you follow Jesus. You change because you’re loved, not in order to be loved.Through His death on the cross, and then coming back from the dead, Jesus took all of your wrong and gave you all of His right.
If you believe that and commit, surrender your life and choose to following Him, your life will never be the same. It’s as simple as admitting you've sinned, declaring you want to follow Jesus, and believing He is who He says He is. Believing in Jesus leads you to a choice to surrender your life.
Believing in Jesus is the first step on the greatest journey of your life.
Baptism is a public declaration of a new association. Once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord, baptism is a way for us to publicly declare our new life in Christ. It is also a step of obedience based on God’s commands and allows us to follow the example of Jesus, who submitted himself to baptism to “fulfill all righteousness.”
Water Baptism is a celebration of the new life you receive through Jesus – and we want to celebrate with you!
Even if you were baptized as an infant, we’ll baptize you again because this time it’s your choice.
Water Baptisms take place in January, March, May, July, September and November. Sign-up below and we will contact you with more details!
We are thrilled you are considering water baptism! This is an important decision and one worth celebrating. We want to answer some of the questions you may have so you can, with confidence, take your next step in water baptism.
Why Should I Be Baptized?
To follow the example set by Jesus. “It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.” (Mark 1:9)
Jesus commanded it. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
It demonstrates you are a believer. “Now, by this, we know that we know Him if we keep His commandments.” (1 John 2:3)
Why Be Baptized By Immersion?
Because Jesus was baptized this way. “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water.” (Matthew 3:16a)
Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion. “And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Now, when they came up out of the water...” (Acts 8:38-39)
The word "baptize" means "to dip or immerse."
What Is The Meaning of Baptism?
Getting lowered in the water represents our sinful nature being dead and buried with Jesus, and as we are lifted out of the water we enter a new life in Jesus. “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
Who Should Be Baptized?
Baptism is an important step of obedience to Jesus. It shows that someone has personally placed their faith and life in Jesus.
Everyone who believes in Jesus should be baptized. Having made a recent decision to trust Jesus alone for their salvation, they follow Him in baptism as a symbol of their faith.
Should I Be Baptized Immediately After Salvation?
The Bible teaches that baptism should follow your decision to become a believer. There is no reason to delay; you will not be any more saved than you are at the point of asking Jesus to be your savior. It is okay to wait until the next scheduled baptism.
Can I Be Baptized Again?
If you have not been baptized by immersion since asking Jesus into your life, your next step is baptism. If you have been baptized since committing your life to Jesus, there is no need to be baptized again, although some have chosen to do so if they have recently recommitted their life to Christ.
What About Children?
All instances of baptism follow an individual's decision to trust Jesus alone for their salvation. At Faith Church, we encourage children to be baptized after they are old enough to understand the true meaning of the decision. We love to see children make a commitment to follow Jesus and we celebrate their baptisms as well. “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not
be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.” (Acts 10:47-48a)
Can I Start Serving Before I Get Baptized?
You do not have to be baptized before you begin serving. We want to schedule you for the next baptism but we also would love to get you plugged in and begin to serve.
What Do I Wear?
We will provide a black shirt for you to wear, but wear dark pants that you don’t mind getting wet. Please bring a dry set of clothing to change into after you are baptized. Arrive 30 minutes before the service begins for some final instructions.
What About Infant Baptisms?
In the Bible, we find parents bringing children to Jesus. He held them and prayed for them and told us to welcome them, but He did not baptize them. We do not baptize infants. However, we do
have opportunities for babies to be dedicated twice a year- Mother’s Day and one Sunday in November.
